Strengthening Your Immune System
While this may seem like an uncommon
piece of information, there is value in reminding
oneself that a strong immune system is absolutely
essential for fighting off infections and health
problems of all kinds. The immune system is THE
SYSTEM we have for staying healthy. So let's look
at a few tips that we can use boost that system
to help us stay strong, young, fit and energized.
Tip number 1: get enough sleep each
and every night.
Now the amount of sleep your body
needs depends upon your particular circumstances,
but many experts recommend getting between 7 and
8 hours.
Studies - and personal experience - have verified
that an adequate amount of sleep is necessary for
health, vitality, clarity of mind and a strong immune
system. Don't believe it? Think about the last time
you had a cold, or the flu, or some other seasonal
ailment. What did you most want to do? Lie down,
close your eyes, and sleep most likely. Those of
you stuck at work (because you can't take the day
off) when sick know how the urge to sleep seems
to magnify as the day progresses. For most people
the urge to sleep when sick is perfectly naturally
and your body's way of marshaling its forces to
fight back the infection. Listen to it (whenever
possible).
Tip number 2: exercise and workout
regularly.
Regular exercise is an essential part
of a healthy life and a strong immune system. People
who are active and workout on a fairly regular basis
accrue many benefits - including being sick less
often and with less severity.
Tip number 3: dump the bad habits.
Which habits? Well, most of us have
plenty, but the ones we have in mind are things
that have a proven detrimental effect on your health
- things like smoking, overeating, drugs, too much
alcohol, etc.
Each of the above weakens the immune
system in one way or another - why tax your immune
system with poisons you don't really need?
Tip number 4: good personal hygiene
You may have heard the saying that
"cleanliness is next to godliness." Well
it's true! This is especially self evident when
one considers that your skin - the part of your
body you're most likely to wash and try to keep
clean - is itself part of the immune system! Just
think about how many times in one day you may be
coming into contact with people, animals or objects
that may be less than savory because of an infection
or bacteria. Naturally, we are immune to a large
number of infections - but not all. So best to wash
on a regular
Tip number 5: eat healthy
Eat a lot of fruit and vegetables,
cut down on sugar, processed foods, starchy carbs,
and make sure you get enough vitamins and minerals
in your diet. Face it, we are what we eat. If we
eat healthy, we will be healthy.
Well that about does it for today!
