Staying Focused and Motivated
Today's healthy living consists of
five practical things you can do to stay focused
and motivated to continue in your present exercise
program or if you do not take regular exercise,
to start one.
But before we get into that, we'd like to let you
know that for the first time ever, the number of
overweight people in the world has actually exceeded
the number of malnourished people in the world.
In a way, that is great news, in that it shows
that the human race has progressed to the point
where famine can be eradicated, not just through
production but by distribution as well, and it also
implies that we are probably on the right path.
But it also implies that many otherwise healthy
people may not be exercising on a regular basis.
And this is important, because as economies advance
and standards of living increase, so too will the
obstacles increase to taking daily exercise - more
office work, more service work, richer and healthier
food, but less manual labor, etc. etc.
So having a plan and sticking to it is becoming
more and more important. Here are a few tips that
may help you:
1. Look forward to your workout with a smile -
yes, we mean that literally. Smiling is a wonderful
way to improve your mood and outlook, is healthy
for you and helps positively reinforce good feelings
about what you are about to do.
2. Visualize what you hope to achieve. Whether it
is build more muscle, lose weight or boost your
immune system, visualizing the results is a big
plus.
3. Do your exercise deliberately. That is, think
about what you are doing and do it.
4. Use your workout time as meditative time - this
way you workout your body and help your mind and
well being through meditation.
5. Be consistent and don't look at your workout
routine as just a "routine." Enjoy it
and have fun with it and vary it from time to time.
